China - no facebook, no twitter, no YouTube

No Facebook. No Twitter. No YouTube. Listing the companies that don’t have access to China’s exploding social-media space underscores just how different it is from those of many Western markets. Understanding that space is vitally important for anyone trying to engage Chinese consumers: social media is a larger phenomenon in the world’sa second-biggest economy than it is in other countries, including the United States. And it’s not indecipherable. Chinese consumers follow the same decision-making journey as their peers in other countries, and the basic rules for engaging with them effectively are reassuringly familiar.

VOICE OF TRUTH with lyrics

Today is such a profound day for me personally. We spent many hours preparing and celebrating a baby shower for a fellow church member. Then at church we heard the terrible news of 3 people we knew in the our community killed in a car crash yesterday. Still one more critically injured. Then there was a freak accident of my daughter's Sunday school  buddy, a 2 year old who had suffered from a head injury at Target. So much to be thankful for yet so much to pray for at the same time. This song  comforts me in the midst of the activities in this little community. I can just hear Him say to us " Be not afraid, for I am with You."

Why Won’t the Euro Crisis Just Go Away?

The European euro/debt/growth/banking/identity crisis is entering its third year. With so many summits, toasts, tense conference calls, and self-congratulatory pronouncements of ultimate success by Europe’s brightest lights, why won’t the crisis just go away? Instead, it is ramping up as interest rates on Spanish and Italian debt rise to critical levels, signaling the end of another respite.

Historic turning point for Louisiana

The left can make fun of Bobby Jindal all they want. But he is the big Kahuna. Today is a good day for Louisiana. Today, a bold educational change is made, the most expansive ever in the whole country. God Bless Louisiana, our children deserve the best education we can give them. Our children deserve our courage.

via Business
Many in America may have been surprised upon reading about the passage of historic education reform in Louisiana. This dawn of a new day in public education happened as a result of the House and Senate passing Gov. Bobby Jindal's education reform package, covering school choice, scholarships, charters, tenure, and other governance issues. For a state that struggles to let go of its past, this was a monumental achievement—and a great day for children.

The rest of the country took note of Louisiana's actions. National business leaders read this in The Wall Street Journal: “Louisiana is poised to establish the nation's most expansive system of school choice by adopting a package of vouchers and other tools that would give many parents control over the use of tax dollars to educate their children.” Back home, a Times-Picayune editorial praised Jindal's reforms, saying, “Gov. Jindal is right to be bold. Despite those earlier reform efforts, Louisiana students still lag behind their counterparts in most other states. Implemented wisely, these reforms could make students more competitive—and improve their lives and the state's economic future.”

A Dream made of Cardboard - A Caine Monroy Story

He is 9 years old. Yet he already knows exactly what he wants to do and just keeps working on it. His dream - to have paying customers visit his Cardboard Arcade. And that dream came true when an independent film maker happened to by pass his Arcade and became his first paying customer. The rest is history. Today, he has a multi-million fan base and a growing scholarship donation of more than $160,000.

This is a story about Hope. About Dreams. No matter how small you are or how limited your resources, in an America built on the founding principles of its forefathers, Dreams do come true for those who believe.

Everyone who heard this story is moved by the innocence and perseverance of this little boy named Caine Monroy. He comes from very humble background. He might not have the latest technology, toys or even go to the best schools. But he has a self. Somewhere along raising this boy, his parents have enabled him to build a Self. A self he can therefore esteem by. Our children are a lot more resilient than we think. When we raise our bar, they do live up to it. When Caine told his father he wanted to build an arcade with his own resources, he did not laugh at him. He did not buy toys that would help him build a plastic arcade. When his son was rejected by many many prospective customers, his father did not yell at the people or bring him to see a therapist for fear that his self esteem is destroyed. His father let him experience the rejections, the fear and all the complaints that helped him improved every one of his creations. And the most heart warming part of the video that makes it American is the number of people that actually showed up at his Arcade who genuinely wanted him to succeed. They did not punish him for his creativity nor his desire to make money. They supported him.

This is a very heart warming, funny and inspiring film. Everyone should watch it. It can happen anywhere  in the world with internet. If we want it to.
Watch the film (Click here) and look at what Caine did with the push button calculators. It is absolutely hilarious.

Parental Influence Takes Precedence Over Barbie and the Media

I hate Barbie, everything about Barbie, how she looks and act. I think she is everything I don't want my daughter to be. The latest Mastercard Barbie says it all. She is airhead. I am determined to keep her off my home grounds. It would be a challenge. But I am ready.

What Parents Can Do To Help Their Children Love Their Bodies

Body size acceptance is not related to weight or actual body size, but to self-esteem and emotional health. The true indicator of a good body image is good self-esteem – not the ability to fit into size 2 jeans.

In an effort to foster self- and body-love, parents should:

  1. Minimize “diet” and weight talk, an activity that may require parents to take a look at their own eating and exercise rituals, attitudes, and preferences about weight and size.

  2. Never joke about, tease, or shame anyone because of her weight or size.

  3. Raise consciousness about the American cultural bias in favor of excessive thinness. Help your child develop immunity to the steady stream of media messages that distort her perspective by countering destructive messages with reality messages.

  4. Discourage dieting and weight-loss fads. Instead, encourage a wellness lifestyle. If your child wishes to lose weight, encourage her to eat differently, not less.

  5. Don’t equate thinness with happiness, self-satisfaction or self-actualization.

  6. Praise your daughter for what she does, not for how she looks. Do some of those things together with her in quality time.

  7. Give your daughter a vision of a greater purpose in life that extends beyond herself and her appearance, thereby encouraging her to develop healthy interests and passions. Self-esteem is drawn from productivity and contribution.

  8. Teach your child that there is no such thing as an “ideal” body. Beautiful bodies come in all sizes and shapes based on each individual’s unique strands of DNA.

  9. Pay attention to negative comments your child may make about her shape. Even if they are irrational, be empathic, not dismissive, as she feels her feelings deeply.
Engage your daughter in a discussion about how she thinks she might look better and how she a changed appearance might improve her life. How does she plan to accomplish these goals?

  10. Engage together in activities that promote accurate, realistic and meaningful body awareness at more profound levels, teaching her to recognize the connection between body and mind.

  11. Encourage your child to become aware of her feelings, to own and express them in the interest of resolving problems rather than harboring them in her body.

  12. Discourage extreme or excessive behaviors of any sort, be they perfectionism, sleeping too much, sleeping too little, shopping too much, studying too little.

It is important for parents to realize that in order for children to feel attractive and good about themselves, they need to learn to become effective problem-solvers, good communicators, and compassionate people, as well as healthy eaters. As John Muir once said, “When one tugs at a single thing in nature, he finds it attached to the rest of the world.”

The Myth of America's Decline

The Myth of America's Decline

A great majority of the world wants to think that America has declined to the stage of hopelessness. That China is the rising Superpower and many even predicted in the next decade China will completely overtake USA in terms of economic and military power.

"But even in the emerging world order, the U.S. is likely to have much more success in advancing its global agenda than many think. Washington is hardly unique in wanting a liberal world system of open trade, freedom of the seas, enforceable rules of contract and protection for foreign investment. What began as a largely American vision for the post-World War II world will continue to attract support and move forward into the 21st century—and Washington will remain the chairman of a larger board.
Despite all the talk of American decline, the countries that face the most painful changes are the old trilateral partners. Japan must live with a disturbing rival presence, China, in a region that, with American support, it once regarded as its backyard. In Europe, countries that were once global imperial powers must accept another step in their long retreat from empire.
For American foreign policy, the key now is to enter deep strategic conversations with our new partners—without forgetting or neglecting the old. The U.S. needs to build a similar network of relationships and institutional linkages that we built in postwar Europe and Japan and deepened in the trilateral years. Think tanks, scholars, students, artists, bankers, diplomats and military officers need to engage their counterparts in each of these countries as we work out a vision for shared prosperity in the new century.
The American world vision isn't powerful because it is American; it is powerful because it is, for all its limits and faults, the best way forward. This is why the original trilateral partners joined the U.S. in promoting it a generation ago, and why the world's rising powers will rally to the cause today."

Obama’s Constitutional Gaff over ObamaCare Displays Superficial Understanding of Constitution

Obama’s remarks expose a two-fold problem that currently exists within the White House. These include: a lack of comprehensive knowledge of the constitution, and lack of professional ethics involving the government process.

"The Supreme Court justices who vote to overturn Obamacare will be more faithful to the Constitution than those who vote to sustain it for the simple reason that, under the enumerated powers and 10th Amendment to the Constitution, health care is properly left to the states and the people to address as they see fit. Undoubtedly, some critics will try to impugn their compassion for voting “against health care,” but such allegations are red herrings, designed to distract people from the sole issue on which the Court sits in judgment—not whether providing universal health insurance is economically prudent, politically popular, or medically effective, but simply whether it is constitutional.
Whatever good intentions they may have, any justice who votes to uphold Obamacare will make a terrible intellectual error. They will have read into the Constitution the spurious notion that the purpose of the federal government is to provide a certain economic standard of living for all Americans.”

The million dollar question on How constitutional is Obama care?

Justice Anthony Kennedy asked a somewhat shaken Solicitor General Donald Verrilli this simple question: “Can you create commerce in order to regulate it?”

The problem with Obama-care is the unrealistic  rosy picture it brings hence opening up the possibility for challenge and criticism.
